We exist solely in the minds of others. Our histories, beliefs, thoughts, and feelings can never be translated on equal footing to those experiences of someone else. Your reality is not mine.
And if we humans are an interconnected web of hearts and minds, leaning on each other and needed to be raised by the village; what right does one have to sever that tie? Is it fair to those around you, those lives you would even innocuously affect, to remove yourself from the community, to leave the collective memory? Art's purpose is to manifest inner turmoil into external forms. Whether that be a philosophy or a suffering, art allows the creator to communicate their thoughts wordlessly. Most of my art is designed to ask the viewer to look inside themselves into parts that are rarely explored. Uncomfortable or taboo subjects that, while awkward or painful, need to be addressed. Not simply pain or joy, but secrecy, shame, power, dysphoria, and reclamation. A vital component of art is both the artist's and the public's relationship with a piece. These works have missing information that highlight the disconnect between artistic intent and inevitable self-projection from the viewer. |
